Dear Members of the School Committee and Dr. Lussier,
I trust that you have had access to the recently published rankings of Massachusetts elementary and middle schools, found here: https://patch.com/massachusetts/wellesley/s/huupq/best-ma-schools-for-grades-k8-us-news?utm_source=alert-breakingnews&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=alert
Regardless of how much value you may give to these rankings, to have our highest elementary school ranked 15, most below 25, and our middle school not even in the top 40, while spending more in our schools than the vast majority (if not all) of towns in our state cannot be acceptable. The also recent, more objective MCAS scores further reflect that state of affairs, with our schools showing mediocre performances at best in relation to the state. Certain subjects in certain grades were even below “meeting expectations” (!).
Given how long this decay in academic standards in our schools has been going on and given the comments made by Dr. Lussier and by our high school principal, Dr. Chisum, when the equally embarrassing high school rankings came out earlier this year, I cannot help but wonder whether any of you even care. In light of our resources, especially in comparison with that of other towns, I’m afraid that I am unable to see any explanation for this scenario other than a combination of ineptitude and omission from you, while also having your priorities woefully misplaced. I certainly cannot fathom the alternative, which would be academic neglect by design.
You are failing our children and our town. Hopefully a recall provision for the School Committee will be introduced and approved and we, the people, will exercise more control over our children’s education.
Shameful.
Sincerely,

Wellesley continues to see a decline in enrollment, which Wellesley Concerned Parent’s believe is a result of the continuous academic decline. Parents are choosing to remove their children from the public school system. In fact, amongst peer schools in the area, Wellesley has had the second largest decline.
Over the past ten years, the Wellesley Public Schools have been in academic decline. Our ranking and MCAS scores have steadily fallen. Yet, our taxes continue to increase year after year.
Why is this happening and does this concern you?

Does BLM and the organization’s sponsored curriculum — which is being used in the Wellesley Public Schools — promote and ultimately cause division and segregation? Are the WPS moving in the wrong direction? Do we want education or indoctrination? The WPS DEI Director, Dr. Charmie Curry has stated that WPS has the opportunity to “mold” our children from a very young age through graduation.
Does the BLM curriculum promote “unity” or ‘division” amongst students?

Should Our Kids Be Masked In School?
Data indicates that most masks are only 10% effective at preventing transmission of COVID-19. Is that small percentage enough to make it worthwhile for kids to wear masks for hours at school, especially when all scientists and medical professionals agree that children under 18 years of age are not in serious danger from the virus? Some say it is worth the effort, some do not. What do you think? What about kids who have hearing deficiencies and who need to read lips in order to communicate? Masks cause them to be unable to communicate with others.
Does the 10% effectiveness justify the use of face masks?

Bias Policy
The Wellesley Public Schools has instituted a policy prohibiting the use of certain words, claiming that use of those words indicate impermissible bias. Training materials for WPS teachers and staff provide an example of an offending remark as “the principal is crazy.”
Students are encouraged to anonymously report other students for using terms allegedly indicating bias.
What do you think about this policy being implemented at WPS?

Many Massachusetts towns have enacted a bylaw permitting the recall of an elected official who is not satisfactorily performing his or her job, or who has broken the public’s trust in some way. Do you support such an initiative? Should town citizens be able to take control of their government if necessary?
Does Wellesley Need a Recall Option to remove town Officials?

Why are the Wellesley Public Schools failing to make syllabi and curricula available to parents? Why aren’t the schools notifying us of the drastic changes the administration has made to the substance of what our children are learning each day? Why do they not tell us in advance of the implementation of policies that affect our children’s freedoms and academic futures?
