Should CRT Be Taught In Wellesley’s Schools?

CRT, Critical Race Theory, or as it is recently being referred to, Culturally Responsive Teaching, creates lots of disagreement, as many of you may have seen via news reports. The core idea is that race is a social construct, and that racism is not merely the product of individual bias or prejudice, but also something embedded in legal systems, policies and, of course, people. Many people dislike CRT because it labels people as either oppressors or oppressed. Why should a white second grader be labeled an oppressor, requiring them to live a life with guilt? Why should a black second grader be labeled an oppressed person, requiring them to live the life of a victim with no possible chance of success? Labeling people on the basis of an immutable characteristic is wrong, no?
