Does CRT Belong In Wellesley’s Public Schools?

School boards in Massachusetts are embracing an intolerant and divisive ideology, sometimes referred to as Critical Race Theory (CRT).  Proponents of this ideology claim that its primary objective is to remedy racial inequality, a goal that we fully support. But the regressive ideology underlying CRT locks students into an identity defined by immutable traits such as the color of their skin. It promotes an illiberal worldview that is fundamentally at odds with the ideals of equality, fairness, and tolerance upon which America was founded. Some of CRT’s claims include:

  • America consists of two groups: oppressed and oppressors. People with more melanin in their skin are oppressed; people with less melanin in their skin are oppressors.
  • Any social, academic, or economic disparities must be attributed solely to one’s skin color.
  • America is fundamentally, and irredeemably, racist; the solution to “systemic racism” must also be systemic.
  • The principles of meritocracy and equality of opportunity are a myth, not a reality.

This divisive ideology constitutes race-essentialism, which means that it makes “race” the defining feature of every unique person. Race-essentialism moves us backward, not forward. Unfortunately, teachers and administrators are now encouraging our students to become activists for this regressive ideology, rather than focusing students on developing their fullest academic and human potential.

Wellesley Concerned Parents
is seeking your help to remove Critical Race Theory (CRT) and its racially-focused curriculum from our core classes including math, English, and science.

We demand that the Wellesley School Committee

  • Remove all CRT or DEI curriculum from core classes such as Math, English & Science
  • End the practice of injecting race into every subject
  • Encourage diverse viewpoints to ensure diversity of thought for all students
  • Remove political bias from the curriculum
  • Discontinue the practice of grouping our children by race
